History
Health by Design was founded by Barb Richter after a journey of recovering from a serious accident, falling 10 feet onto concrete. She suffered through two years of many different types of therapy but just could not get back to 100%. Just going to the grocery store would leave her in pain the rest of the day. Being only in her late thirties with two small children, this was not acceptable. Her chiropractor, determined to help her, found a massage therapist near by. This way she could commit to the bi-weekly sessions of therapy. Much to her surprise, by the fifth visit she started feeling that final muscle pain melt away. She saw such improvement over the next several weeks that she was able to get back to her normal activities. Along with relieving muscle pain, her massage therapist educated her on how we entrap the emotions into our body during a trauma. Our muscles have memory and create chronic pain. The seeds of interest were starting to be planted.
While seeing this therapist she found out her four year old son was ADHD. The massage therapist shared some of her techniques to help settle him and make him sleep better. When her son started to ask "Do that thing to my neck and head mommy", it was at that point the love and passion for massage was born. This is when she really started to realize the power of massage.
At that time she decided that massage was what she was meant to do and shortly there after started massage school, finishing second highest in the state. Every door opened for her as she followed what had been laid upon her heart and in 2000 started Health by Design to continue to share her gift.
